Give your mane the shine it deserves.
Start with the scalp
The scalp is important as far as the foundation of the shine and appearance of the hair. The true foundation of your hair is in the hair follicles coming from your scalp. Make sure that your scalp is both clean and moist by opting for shampoos and products that don’t create build up or dry out the scalp.
Work from the inside out
What shine really comes down to is your hair’s health – and that starts from the inside. What you put in will show on the outside, so eat right and drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.
Know your products
A lot of us just take things from the shelves without even looking – so always check. If they product you use contain added colour, it may dry out your hair and affect the shine. It’s important to pay attention to the type of shampoos and products that you’re using as far as adding moisture to your hair.
For the naturals
Natural hair tends to be a lot dryer, so we suggest you use sulfate-free shampoo or a moisturizing and hydrating shampoo, as well as a deep conditioner. Also get an intense moisturizing treatment from your salon. It will give you a sleek look and make your hair shiny. Aside from washing your natural, adding some old or Shea butter will help give your strands a glossier shine.
Shine while you sleep
It may seem simple, but one of the best ways to keep moisture locked in your hair is to sleep on a satin pillow or wear a satin scarf instead of the old doek’s we’re used to. The wool and cotton scarfs dries out hair. Sleeping with the satin or silk scarfs helps preserve the shine products you put in your hair.
Shine depends on hair hydration, which is why deep conditioners, hot oil treatments and hair detoxing are essential for healthy hair. For an at-home oil treatment, we recommend a mixture of tea tree and olive oil. You just warm it, coat it on the hair, then put a cap on and wait 15 minutes before rinsing.
