Soweto Fashion Week and Darling Hair’s Black Panther-inspired hairstyles.

Darling Hair took us back to Wakanda at Soweto Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2018. Now 6 years running as SFW partner, Darling hairstylists did it again! Celebrating “Black is flawsome” and visually inspired by the movie Black Panther – models walked the runway in Wakanda-inspired hairstyles. Each model represented a character from the movie and was dressed in outfits made entirely from Darling hair products.

American businesswoman, and former supermodel, Tyra Banks, coined the term – “flawsome”, to help young women build self-confidence.

Darling’s Senior Brand Manager Pearle Peane, said “We are surrounded by many shapes, sizes and shades in our black communities. Whether you are light-skinned or dark-skinned, all women are uniquely beautiful with their flaws, and we should embrace our flaws because they form part of our identity, which is why when selecting models for the Wakanda inspired range, “Unique” was our draw card and our search led us to these beautiful models.”

In a bold move, up-and-coming models of all shapes, sizes and colours walked the runway and showed off their awesome, flawsomeness.

Peane said, “African beauty is captured through traditions that demonstrate how women should embrace their bodies with their flaws, and proudly adorn themselves with ornaments and precious treasures.”

And the Black Panther-inspired collection reflected that confidence, with innovative hairstyles and colour palettes, which turned heads. The collection represented Africa’s outer and inner beauty, that Peane said, “reflects the mindset of being proud of your body and the skin you’re in”.
