Just like hair, your beard needs a regular wash, moisturising, and a good trim now and then.
To grow a healthy beard you have to ensure that the products you use are formulated for beard care and won’t harm your skin or dry your beard out. Here, Shereen Makhanye shares 4 simple steps to a well-groomed beard from Nubian Nature’s Beard tube, a beard care kit.
Wash your beard with a handmade beard soap or beard cleanser free from harsh drying chemicals. Products formulated for the beard are carefully formulated to be mild and gentle. They are often packed with active ingredients that help reduce redness, stimulate growth and repair split ends. Commercial soap bars and cleansers tend to be strong and will strip the beard of its natural oils.
After cleansing, dry the beard thoroughly. Rub a decent amount of moisturizer between fingers and massage into your skin and beard from the neck upwards. The moisturizer helps to soften, moisturise and condition the skin and beard. Remember, body moisturizer is often too thick and might have ingredients that are comedogenic therefore causing blackheads and acne.
Rub Balm in between fingers and run them through skin and beard to seal in moisture.
Brush the balm through your beard to distribute balm evenly through the beard. Trim when the beard looks unkempt.
