We were excited to unpack the Clicks curls goodie bag and even more to find our favorite deep conditioner, Palmer’s coconut oil formula deep-conditioning protein pack along with the new Palmer’s olive oil formula deep conditioner. Before we get into the benefits of these deep conditioners, it is important to understand why deep conditioning is an important part of a healthy hair regimen.

Deep conditioning

Deep conditioning repairs hair that is damaged from chemicals, over-manipulation, or heat but avoiding all of that alone doesn’t mean your hair is safe from damage; harsh temperatures can also dry your hair especially if you do not have any protective hairstyle or gear on. A good deep conditioner should have penetrating ingredients like avocado oil, olive oil, coconut oil, or protein to repair where your hair lacks.

How often should you deep condition

Deep conditioning is important for all hair regimens, but how often you deep condition will depend on the level of your hair porosity or how much your hair gets exposed to damaging factors and most importantly the instructions on the product you are using. If the instructions say “Leave it in for 30 minutes before rinsing” then it is probably safe to keep your eyes on the clock and wash it off after 30 minutes.

  • For low porosity hair Deep condition once a month or whenever your hair feels dry. When your hair is dry is will become brittle and break.
  • For Medium porosity hair Deep condition twice a month or whenever your hair is dry.
  • For high porosity hair Deep condition every week. Most high porosity hair is due to damage and deep conditioning will assist in repairing your hair cuticles. For more on understanding hair porosity and testing your hair porosity click here.
